Involvement in education

After gaining a Post-graduate Certificate in Education from Durham University, Judith taught in secondary schools in Hampshire and Berkshire. She ran school choirs, a string group, and bands for school shows. As Head of Music, she also mentored trainee teachers.

This led to work as a Professional Studies Tutor at Reading University, which she combined with keyboard teaching for the Berkshire Young Musicians Trust. Later, she also assisted with student assessment on the PGCE Secondary Music course.

After a short career break she returned to the classroom and then started work for Oxfordshire County Music Service. Here she has developed materials and schemes of work for teaching electronic keyboard and piano. These include ensemble arrangements of exam pieces for Trinity College Joint Assessment Grades. She has led workshops for keyboard ensembles and has supported GCSE students in performance and composition.

Judith wrote the first electronic keyboard syllabus for MTB exams, developing their framework for progression in technique and the use of keyboard functions. She has produced six handbooks of pieces and exercises for Pre-grades up to Grade 5, available from MTB exams. MTB Keyboard books.

In addition to her work for the Oxfordshire Music Hub, she has a private teaching practice at home.
